In the history of mankind, the "war crimes" commited in in Iraq and Afghanistan by Americans is negligible. That is why it is so shokcking to hear about rape and murder by American soldiers. Rape and murder and pillage should be expected in war, but…

Were there even gentiles during the flood (before Abraham)?

Great post. I will use it to critique a book report I am writing on "The Rise of Christianity" by Rodney Stark. Here is what he says: "The promise that most converts would live to see the Lord's return was stressed by the apostles. ...Within a few y…

Appreciate it. I was just thinking about this passage last week, but couldn't come up the clear, logical response as you posted.

What an interesting reading that sounds valid. Do the good deeds in verse 10 mean faith in the gospel, to include the saints of old and the New Testament saints?

The more I try to find any justification for for women elders, the more ridiculous the proposition seems. The only way that we change what the Bible says is if the Bible says to change. We don't change it because the Bible does not say do not change…

Justin this slip of the tongue was revealing of the underlying sentiment (to me, subjective).

Jean-Pierre, I meant women in the eldership, but I think you figured that out. I thought for sure that you would catch another mistake: I listed only seven rules for interpretation, but claimed to use eight.

And to strengthen the case of this argument it would follow like this: 1. Since we know the Bible teaches a "future" fulfillment of all things in AD 70, even though we don't yet see it in our Bible as being fulfilled, we are sure of it's validity b…

And the whole argument that "if God ordained it, we should see an exaple of it in the Bible otherwise it's not possible" is exactly the same argument that PP's make about full preterism, "If the Bible doesn't record the events, or God didin't includ…

Kenny...exactly right! We are able to be elders and teachers in the Church (remember what Paul said...the Holy Spirit gives to each according to His desires). Elders are only elders because they have been elected with gifts and the spirit...that's a…

Thank you Kenny. Like I said, if God ordained it, we should see some NT example of it, but we don't....

There is no such cast separating believers in the new covenant. The wall came down. Heb 8:10-13 (10) For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write…

"Meanwhile, the only card those favoring women in the priesthood play is the definition of words in the Greek text. " The skirt is showing in this sentence. Do you think women are not priests?

Women cannot be elders

The office of elder is to be filled by men, not women.

The Bible does not outright say that the office of elder is reserved exclusively for men. Neither does is say, however, that women may fill that office.

Without a direct command or instruction we can next use the examples given in the Bible. The New Testament does not recorded a church ever having a female elder.

If this is not convincing enough, another method may be used: the common characteristic method. Specifically, the characteristi… Continue

Denver Seminary

Your prayers are coveted. In the next two weeks my family and I are moving to Littleton, CO while I attend Denver Seminary. I am studying to earn my M.Div. with an emphasis on Chaplaincy.
We have on campus housing, and I have a good part time job set up, but if anybody has better, let me know. We will also be looking for a church.

Do We Want to Return to the Early Church?

We constantly hear the argument that we need to return to the spirit and worship of the first century church. I disagree. Since the first century, the bride of Christ has matured in knowledge and faith. Could anybody in the first century understand the truth of Christ in terms of the Gospel of John, Titus, and Isaiah, for example? We have the complete Old Testament and New Testament. It took the church three centuries to settle on the 27 books of the New Testament.

Today everybody has a Bible.… Continue

Isaiah 44:1-5 response

My father-in-law asked me for my insight to Isaiah 44:1-5. Here was my simple reply:

"The blessings mentioned here are the result of Israel's repentance. Start with Isaiah 43:25-26, a covenant of obedience. Verse 25 is Jehovah telling Israel He will start with a clean slate. Verse 26 is the terms of trial. Sounds alot like the Constitution of the U.S. Isaiah 43:27-28 the result of Israel breaking the terms. 44:1-5 the result of Isreal keeping the terms.

Of course, any people or person is made… Continue

Today while I was taking a shower, I was thinking about the grammatico historical method of interpretation and the rule "Let scripture interpret scripture." “Historical" means to read scripture in light of the author and recipients of a text. How often do we hear, however, that the end of the ages is still future because the signs of the end are not known to have occurred. This rule of interpretation would be named "Let experience interpret scripture," which I have yet to hear as a credible coro… Continue

I have never really said hello. I hope my quick responses are not an offense to you. I tend to speak as though everyone knows me. I tend to be blunt but I don't usually get offended easily, so I usually impose that trait onto others. Blessings to you!!

Ditto Laurie's question... what does the symbol represent? Seems like I've seen it before. Reminds me of a branding iron. :o)
